Week 5 NFL Highlights

Week 5 NFL Highlights

by Amy Lignor

Saints versus Eagles: two 1-3 teams both facing a huge uphill battle to find themselves anywhere near contention. Yes, even the Eagles are going to have a problem, although the way the Dallas Cowboys’ mouths are running lately, the Eagles may only have to deal with the Giants when it comes to their Division. Sam Bradford, Eagles QB, looked poor last week at Washington when the team lost to the Redskins in the final seconds. Bradford NFL, highlights, week 5, Amy's Anglewants to show his skill. DeMarco Murray was not on the injured list this week. The RB stolen from the Cowboys and being paid a whole lot of money said last week that he wanted the ball more. When it came down to it, the game wasn’t all that ‘good looking’ on Sunday, but Murray did get the ball more and scored some points in the process, allowing the Eagles to come away with a win over the Saints. Is this a fluke or an actual light at the end of a dark tunnel for the Eagles?

The Buffalo Bills uniforms have been dyed yellow. Oh, wait…no. That yellow glow came from the constant penalty flags being thrown all around them. Yes, they have shown in the past few weeks, especially last week that they will get tagged for everything from chop blocks to jumping offside if need be, in order to win the game. Oh, wait…they didn’t win those games. Hmmm. Will the Bills be able to grow up and shut up? Well, this week the Bills did win and they weren’t as yellow, but they won by one point only against a team that is about as bad as a team can get. But, a win is a win, so congrats to the Bills.

The Dallas Cowboys versus the New England Patriots. Everyone wanted to see this one. The Cowboys are bruised and battered, with Tony Romo and Dez Bryant sitting on a bench. The owner, Jerry Jones, as well as the fans in Dallas, are waiting as patiently as possible to see them back on the field and back to winning. Can you blame the insertions, however, for the past three losses? No. The QB Wheeden has been doing very well, but apparently the Cowboys defense cannot seem to keep up. The Patriots? Well, they’re not bruised and battered. Tom Brady, Gronk, and the rest of Brady’s knowns and unknowns that seem to come out of the woodwork to catch TD passes, have been doing just fine. The ‘Deflategate’ scenario seems to have woken a giant in Brady, and he seems determined to make sure that no gray cloud will hang over the monumental achievements he has earned during his career. He came into Dallas this week after comments were made by Greg Hardy (yet another player Jerry Jones has hired that does not deserve to play the game) regarding Brady’s own wife. Sounds a bit like childhood, doesn’t it? Where someone says something about your Mom just to make you cry. Well, Brady didn’t cry. He kept his game face on. You knew, however, that after the stupid comments Hardy made, somewhere under that cool, calm Brady exterior was a little boy pointing and laughing. Brady went home with the win (30-6), to a beautiful wife and family, and even though Greg Hardy did sack him during the game (even made Brady wince with one shot), the so-called “America’s Team” chalked up another well-deserved loss.

The Rams versus Green Bay. Yes, everyone is used to the fact that you skip this one paragraph because you already know that the ultimate QB Aaron Rodgers never loses a game at Lambeau Field. BUT, you also should know that nothing lasts forever. And it didn’t. Ha. Ha! Gotcha! This paragraph does mean nothing. Remaining unbeaten, Rodgers at Lambeau Field gets yet another win. But one record that goes by the wayside is the fact that he had not thrown an interception at Lambeau in what seems like forever. During this game, Rodgers did throw one, then another one. But I don’t think that one record will have him crying in his coffee anytime soon. After all, they won yet again 24-10.

Seattle versus the undefeated Bengals. Cincinnati was bright and sunny. Andy Dalton, QB, was smiling. RB Bernard Thomas was having a ball. Kam (the man who decided to sit on the couch for Seattle and wait for more money at the beginning of the year) was smacking people down, and basically looking like he deserved more money. Could the Bengals remain undefeated? Overtime came and Seattle’s QB Wilson spent a whole lot of time on his back, or running away from the people who would put him, yet again, on his back. Okay, guys…your defense is great, but if you do not get an offense to care for the QB, you will have none. Seattle blows a 17 point 4th quarter lead, the Bengals remain 5 and 0, and Seattle goes home to wonder what the heck they do now.

Another overtime game starring an undefeated team? The Atlanta Falcons beat the Redskins in OT to remain on top.

Jay Cutler and the Chicago Bears have now won two in a row. Odd, huh? The Broncos defeated the Raiders…but not without a whole lot of work. The Browns made an incredible catch to waste the Baltimore Ravens and improve their season to 2-3. And the Arizona Cardinals rolled over the Detroit Lions as if they weren’t even there.

Were there even more ups and downs? You bet. And either you’re crying or cheering for your local hero’s right about now. All that’s left to say is: Good luck in Week 6.
