Tim Tebow: You Haven’t Seen the Last of Me

Tim Tebow: You Haven’t Seen the Last of Me

 By Patrick Qualls

Have any opinion you want. America. Free will. You know the drill. Let’s start with that. You can be a hater. Or, you can be a fan who’s extremely angry that when Tim Tebow marched out on the field he couldn’t get the job done. (Oh, yeah, much like the actual starting QB who couldn’t get the job done.) Or, you can be one of the people who believe all the rotten publicity the guy has gotten thus far; but, as an NFL lover and huge fan of the sport, I have to give a big thumbs…UP to Tim Tebow.

His ‘good deeds’ in Denver should not be erased so fast. Just because the mighty Peyton became the QB (who, oh yeah, lost and didn’t get his team to the Super Bowl), Tim Tebow showed skill at the position. Was he Joe Montana? No. Nor am I even suggesting that. What I am suggesting is the fact that the guy has the ability there; he just needs the right coach and the right situation to shine.

Perhaps it was Divine intervention – this strange path that Tebow has walked thus far. Without all this silly media, perhaps he imgreswould have been cast off without being given a real chance. I hope Tebow is a fan of fate, irony, destiny – or whatever the heck he wants to call it – because he is still very much here in the NFL…and deserves to be.

The news is that for $99.95 on the New England Patriots’ Pro Shop website, a fan can order a Tim Tebow jersey. The news is that the cardboard cutout of Tebow is not going away. Although, if he feels bad about that, he shouldn‘t. My own roommate bought one of Troy Aikman a long time ago, so the cutouts really aren’t all that weird.

Has humility died? I know, we look at the headlines every single day and have become more than warped and bitter. Bombings, explosions, this one on trial for this, this one on trial where people are actually buying tickets for seats in the courtroom (ick, by the way), and even the announcement made last week that this country is losing our children at a suicide rate that is beyond frightening.

Everyone needs a hero. And that is not a cliché. Whether you want to admit it or not, you actually have that spark inside your soul, hoping to one day see Tebow grab the brass ring, smile and say, “I told you so.”

Brady will, of course, remain the Patriots golden boy. He should. But for people (even some writers, by the way, who spoke for New Englanders as a whole and were way off when it came to the opinion they gave), it is important to note that the one thing about New England is that it’s old. Yup, I said it…old.

With age comes something more than wrinkles. Or, at least it came from my neck of the woods in CT. It’s called class. No, not money, class. You’re either born with it or you’re not, simple as that. Although I am not a diehard Patriots fan, I will say as a football fan and human being, that all heroes came out of nothing. They were the ones slapped down, knocked around and basically pushed aside, chided, or looked at like they were beyond odd. (Check any book you want to back up these facts). New England likes the old, Red, White and Blue. We like the good old National Anthem, and we like to see the underdog win.

“Tebowing.” If you want to kneel, do so. If you want to give regards to a heavenly being, do so. If you want to stand straight and tall, or bow, do both. The one thing that should never be done is crawl. Once you’re a baby who learns how to stand, crawling through this world is no longer necessary.

And the last thing Tim Tebow is doing is crawling. We haven’t seen the last of him. And it will be more than interesting to see what the new season brings.
