The Social Media Team On Call 24/7

We talk all the time about the need to hire a social media team that is on call for you 24/7. This team not only makes sure that your social media marketing is always up-to-date and at its highest, most creative level, but they also bring other branches of knowledge and expertise to your company. And lately, one of those branches, you can NOT live without.

Just recently, for those who have not yet read about it in the news, hackers attacked Twitter and the fear is that these anonymous thieves may just have gained access to passwords as well as other information for as many as 250,000 accounts. Twitter revealed this travesty themselves in a blog post that stated the passwords that were stolen were encrypted and that the company had already reset them as a ‘precautionary measure.’ They went on to say that they would notify all affected users themselves.

Of course, this is only one attack of many. Large-scale cyber attacks have occurred against many corporations, including attacks against the two largest news organizations: The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal.

Twitter, however, has not gone into any detail regarding where the attacks originated. What they stated was that: “This attack was not the work of amateurs, and we do not believe it was an isolated incident. The attackers were extremely sophisticated, and we believe other companies and organizations have also been recently and similarly attacked.”

For any company out there right now – whether small, mid-sized, or the largest of the large – it is absolutely necessary to be as cautious as possible when it comes to your own information as well as your client accounts. A Social Media Team who is on-Be First logocall 24/7, such as Be First Media Group, can sit down and truly explain to customers exactly what must be done in order to protect themselves in the future, and provide safety to their company.

The easiest way to begin, of course is to make sure that your default password is constantly changed. Think of this as a combination on a security vault. Changing this on a monthly basis – or, even weekly – provides a much more solid set-up for your business and brings you far more peace of mind. There is actually some software available that has a built-in password that’s used for the first log-in after installation, and anyone should know that this HAS to be changed. Leaving this ‘given’ password in place is simply asking for trouble.

Have experts identify all your computer’s entry points so that they can immediately install scanning software programs. It is an absolute fact that any cyber attack begins from these specific locations, so identifying these entry points has to be done. Again, before putting together any social marketing strategies where your information will be circulated all across the World Wide Web, these precautions must come first. You are looking for your marketing to bring in profits, not cause a mistake so large that it ends up shutting your company down for good.

Once everything is installed and updated, it is your people – the people you trust – who should then literally ATTACK the system. They need to test every possible case scenario to make sure that the right software and guards are in place so that nothing about your system is vulnerable.

Then, your employees must be made aware of all steps they need to take in order to work well, diligently and safely with the new software, codes, etc. Your company runs as smoothly as your employees do who sit at the helm, so make sure that as many precautions as possible are put into place and that all users are aware of the protection that’s being run on your company’s programs.

The term ‘firewalls‘ is still as necessary and important as it was ten years ago, and a firewall must be in place. If not, this supposed security protection becomes another truly vulnerable point where any attacker can enter the system and steal information from you. A firewall needs to be established by, yet again, masters at their craft – and people you absolutely trust beyond a shadow of a doubt to protect your company and do the job right.

Passwords are necessary, people. Even if we head into the robotic world of the Jetsons one day, passwords will always be necessary. Strong password policies are cropping up all over the place across the World Wide Web; more and more companies are putting up screens requesting no less than seven characters in order to enter their company website. Not to mention, passwords must be changed every 60 days. The password should also be made up of both alpha and numeric characters to make it more unique.

Yes, there is more when it comes to security. But, in the end, what is absolutely necessary is to make sure that you invest in the proper experts in each one of these fields. Whether it be security, analysts, or social media marketing – there are true ‘teams’ out there that have been assembled to keep your company growing – and safe!
