The Miracle That Protects Nature

 by Carmen Schwartz

Every year we throw our accolades at organizations that have stood up for, and worked diligently to make positive changes in this world. From the organizations that help our children lead longer, healthier lives – to organizations that fight for peace with the weapons of intellect and honesty – there are others who also work to fight for the unheard voices that this world can not survive without.

The Nature Conservancy is at the top of the list when it comes to working day-in and day-out to protect our environment, rebuild habitats, save the lives of creatures that need to be saved and are somehow overlooked in the industrial and technological age. TNCLogoPrimary_RGBProtecting nature is a ‘must’, as we have all seen with the breakdowns of the air we breathe and the water we drink. If nature and the environment goes, we all do, and that is a fact that can not be brushed under the table any longer.

What was once done without a second thought has now been curbed. Everything from destroying timberland to using energy safe appliances has come into being, fighting the statistics that show our world disintegrating faster than we can save it. The Nature Conservancy does everything within their power to preserve life by protecting the environment and watching over each and every species that we need on this earth.

Some of the most amazing projects The Nature Conservancy brings to the table encompass everything from saving coral reefs to deserts; by protecting both land and water and all the nutrients they provide to animals for their survival, the Earth remains safe and life moves forward.

The Nature Conservancy works a great deal with rivers and lakes, creating freshwater ecosystems that provide every creature with the food, water and energy they need to survive. They put their full heart and soul into this cause, knowing that if things remain as they are, in the next 20 years at least half of the world’s population will face water shortages.

When it comes to oceans and coastlines, the very real fact is that the ocean contains 99 percent of all the planet’s living space, and this space supports almost half of all the species found on this planet. A healthy marine ecosystem provides humans with everything from oxygen to food, yet human activity has destroyed the ecosystem that must be in place if humanity is to go on.

This is the same with forests and timberland; areas that, once again, support life that is needed in order to eat and breathe on this planet. The Nature Conservancy has toiled to find ways to stop deforestation and degradation, fires and more.

For each and every one of these areas of the planet, The Nature Conservancy has come up with pliable, economical and viable solutions to save what we need in order to save ourselves.

The Nature Conservancy partners with everyone from global organizations to hometown partners in order to aid farmers with new technologies that will reduce their water use for crops, and give them creative and working ideas that literally will save millions of lives.

Perhaps it’s the simple fact that a human literally is looking at one-hundred-years of life on this planet (if they’re very lucky). Hence, when a statistic or fact comes out that says: “In 300 years…” it seems as if it’s not as big a deal, seeing as that you will not be around to see it. However, the next generation, the children we are providing for, the planet we want to survive – all must work in the here and now in order for the planet to have a future.

So a huge thank you goes to The Nature Conservancy. This is one organization that will continue to work to make sure that the ground you’re standing on is still here – and far more healthy – for your grandchildren’s grandchildren.
