Thanksgiving is a Time For Family

by James Moore

Although the headline of this article is true, when it comes to the siblings that make up the World Wide Web, niceties have kind of gone the way of the do-do.

Let’s look back… Over the course of 2013, Google+ (an engine that probably could), was awarded a silver medal in the social media Olympic Games. Still a distant second as we head into 2014 soon, Google+ is proving to be a viable contender for the mighty throne that Facebook always seems to retain.

Facebook is looking at some severe competition; or, let’s just say some new technology that will pull crowds off of Facebook and onto Befirst Media-business-man-choosing-for-social-media-marketingother things. Pinterest is a name now. Instagram is a name now. And, above all, the mobile phone has become the supreme being that everyone carries in their hands (at all times, judging by the number of them attached to drivers’ ears as you go down the road). Mobile applications are big; they are well-used, and more and more social media/PR companies are making sure to steer their clients into mobile advertising.

Reviews by other consumers are being read; mobile apps that show the stranger in town what the best places are to eat, sleep and shop, are being relied heavily upon. In other words, Facebook is not the only show in town anymore.

Now, yes, Zuckerberg is not worrying. After all, he can simply hire massively bright experts to make his own mobile apps, or improve the ones already out there. He stands (usually) on the edge of science and technology, although he did get a bit red in the face this year when it came to another sibling…Twitter.

The Facebook IPO didn’t go as well as planned, as we all remember. Yet, out of nowhere and with not much expert support, the Twitter IPO did swimmingly. Whether or not that interest and success will remain, no one knows. But as of right now, Twitter has taken Wall Street by storm, whereas Facebook barely made it rain.

Google+ now offers more to both the public and to the small business out there that wants to increase their social media presence. Small business and franchise owners have grown in popularity this year, and with the right social media/PR team on board they have seen continued success using the Google+ platform.

From changing profiles to altering business pages; to being able to add content, images, and spice things up for their target audience, Google+ has been there for the businesses that need more personal help and focus in order to see profits.

Users feedback has been a huge plus when it comes to Google+. They listened to the people using the system and wanted to update what they provided. Google Chrome is being mentioned more than others as we head into the Christmas purchasing season. And when it comes to the hottest technology, the cellular world is receiving most of the focus, which means those mobile apps will be expanding even more in 2014

Quicker news feeds, standing up to the challenge of the visual and allowing users to be more intricate with their Technicolor images, while at the same time being able to add that real-time content potential customers want to see – all has been achieved.

Marketers out there are upbeat about 2014. Although the siblings will continue to fight at the Thanksgiving table, trying to outdo each other with new technology and new applications, the small business and franchise see their future as being extremely profitable.

With the help of the social media/PR team, the sky’s the limit for 2014!
