Myrtle Beach Has Something for Everyone

Myrtle Beach Has Something for Everyone

By Burt Carey

With more than 300 hotels, beach-front condos and homes for rent, 100 golf courses and 60 miles of beaches that make up the world-famous Grand Strand, Myrtle Beach plays host to millions of visitors every summer.

vacations, summer, South Carolina, Atlantic Coast, Myrtle Beach, “Golf Capital of the World”, SkyWheel, Carolina Opry
They key word used around this South Carolina gem along the Atlantic Coast is fun. And it’s all made possible through inclusive vacation packages offered by area hotels and resorts that include specialties for golf, cuisine, attractions, theater, live entertainment and weddings.

Whether you’re into putting golf balls on butter-smooth greens, fishing, shopping or just lounging on a sandy beach, there’s plenty to do and see here.

Showcased throughout the Myrtle Beach area are 60 miles of exquisite, white-sand beaches that border the Atlantic Ocean. Sure, bring the Frisbee, a wake board and a couple of beach chairs, but remember that with all of those beaches come the trendiest of trendy watersport activities, such as surfing, fishing, boating, kayaking, scuba diving, parasailing and windsurfing. And for family enjoyment, there’s no shortage of waterparks that feature some of the best water slides on the East Coast.

Inshore visitors rave about the area’s rivers, creeks and marshes, and you’ll find the Intracoastal Waterway is filled with spectacular views, waterfront homes and even access to excellent restaurants and shopping.

Myrtle Beach is billed as the “Golf Capital of the World” for good reason. Many of its 100 courses were designed by some of the legends of the game. Whatever your budget, there are several options to choose from, and even if you were to come for all 92 days of summer you’ll never get bored by having to play the same course twice.

Looking for entertainment? The Carolina Opry needs to be on your must-experience list. There’s also the Legends in Concert, the Palace Theatre, and the Alabama Theatre. If the kids are coming along, you’ll want to see WonderWorks, an upside-down house, and Ripley’s Aquarium, Pirate’s Voyage and Medieval Times. And at Plyler Park in downtown Myrtle Beach, you can take in the live music and bands of the city’s Hot Summer Nights every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 8-11 p.m. through Aug. 29.

The Myrtle Beach SkyWheel isn’t for sissies. It is the biggest Ferris wheel on the East Coast and takes in fantastic views of the Atlantic Ocean and the city’s skyline. A day trip to Myrtle’s 1.2-mile Boardwalk will put you there.

Myrtle Beach and its surrounding communities have something for everyone, from the budget-conscious to big spenders, when it comes to accommodations. Depending on how far you want to travel, there are places with ocean views right on the ocean or within walking distance. From hotels and motels, condos, beach homes, rustic cabins and campgrounds, the area offers a wide variety of places to you to lay your head at night.

As 15 million visitors annually can attest, Myrtle Beach is a thriving vacation hot spot for weekend getaways or longer vacations. For special deals and current events, click on http://www.visitmyrtlebeach.com/ and plan your next beachside outing.
