Green Bay Packers Owns the ‘Arm’

Green Bay Packers Owns the ‘Arm’

~by Amy Lignor

True. Last year’s NFC Championship Game was almost a bigger mess than the actual Super Bowl itself. It was as if the Seahawks were granted a success to get there, just to have success ripped away in the final seconds of the Super Bowl, leaving them completely and
utterly shocked. This time around, the Seahawks lost their first game (to the Rams, if you can believe it), and then had to head straight to ‘Legion of Boom’ , Seattle Seahawks, Green Bay Packers, Super Bowl Ring, the game, NFL footballGreen Bay Packers territory to meet up with the ‘arm’ that was so confused the last time they met that he had definite vengeance on his mind.

What was once referred to as the ‘Legion of Boom’ in Seattle was being whispered about in various locker rooms as having turned into the ‘Legion of Doom.’ But not doom for the other team; the term means they may just be bringing about their own demise. Some Seahawk players should be giving thanks that they signed their HUGE contracts before this nightmare commenced. But, after all, it is only the second week of the season and the Seattle Seahawks management shouldn’t get too scared that they emptied the bank to keep players who may or may not turn out to be the core of a team that will bring home only that one Super Bowl ring.

Home field advantage is huge for Green Bay to claim this year after the strange loss in the NFC Championship. Playing the Seahawks in the home opener at the historic Lambeau Field had Rodgers hoping that Seattle’s rotten play last week is not a Super Bowl hangover; that it’s just how bad they actually play. Seeing as that their star, Kam Chancellor, is still sitting it out this week waiting for, of course, more money, showed that Seattle has no idea what’s going on.

MVP of the league last year, Aaron Rodgers, hadn’t thrown an interception at Lambeau Field in almost three years. (17 Games/512 Pass Attempts/41 TD’s) All of these are NFL records for the man who goes on the field and seems awfully calm about things – even when he’s under pressure and casually ‘flips’ the ball to his nearest teammate, and then they go and run for a TD.

The Packers are 15-2 in games at Lambeau since 2012. One of the losses came in 2013 when they were wild cards with the 49ers and the second came against the Bears when Rodgers broke his collarbone in the very first quarter. This is the first time in that stretch that the Seahawks are in their territory. Question is: Can Rodgers remain that perfect QB and wipe the floor with Seattle?

The “Baad, Baad Man” as Rodgers is called wants nothing more than to host the NFC Championship Game this year on the cold, icy Lambeau Field. The way Seattle played, it looks like that goal won’t be a problem to attain. Although Rodgers sees the field as the advantage for getting to the Super Bowl, players and fans of football see Rodgers’s arm as the real advantage. This QB is one of the best in the biz. He deserved the Lombardi Trophy last year, and barring some really strange events should bring it home this time around.

But this was one messy game. From the first run down the field which resulted in a Green Bay TD, the game looked as if it would be an easy blowout for the Pack, sending Seattle back to their hometown with tails between their legs standing at 0-2. But as the game continued, things began to change. Even though Seattle was called for personal fouls left and right, they still hung in there. Wilson, their QB, came out after halftime to move the Seahawks ahead.

Rodgers looked more than angry as this game went forward. Not only does he want home field advantage, he also doesn’t want to lose in front of a crowd he is beloved by. In the end, the Packers proved resilient, and Rodgers kept his calm, his smile, and his status as being the best in the biz.

The only thing Seattle proved was that the one player that actually deserved all the money he got was QB Russell Wilson. In the second half it seemed like Wilson was the only one wearing a Seahawks helmet. Others, like number 52 who was ejected from the game, absolutely deserved it. In fact, there were far more Seahawks that should have been sent off the gridiron and straight to the plane headed home. This is one team that needs to rethink how to play the game.
