Diane Hassinger is On Point for TenPoint

We expect pro staff members to talk up their chosen product lines. That’s what pro staffers do. Most passersby listen to the stories, some might even ask a couple of questions, then politely move along. But when Diane Hassinger tells her story, TenPoint Crossbows virtually fly off the retail shelf.

Diane's 200 Pound Doe

Diane’s 200 Pound Doe

“I was one of those diehards. You know, ‘I will never shoot a crossbow,’” she admitted. “I absolutely love shooting compound bows, but my days of comfortably doing that are probably done because I’ve had breast cancer twice.”

Following a bilateral mastectomy five years ago, Hassinger determined that she was too weak to draw her compound bow. Her husband, Dale, picked out a TenPoint Turbo XLT crossbow from among other manufacturer’s crossbows at a Bass Pro Shops store. It was the accompanying ACUdraw that intrigued him. “Diane, I think you can shoot this,” he told his wife.

He asked a salesman to demonstrate it for Diane at the indoor range. She hit the bull’s-eye, then quickly discovered that she could cock the crossbow using just one finger and the ACUdraw. One finger and it pulled to a weight of 185 pounds. That’s the day Diane Hassinger saw a way to hunt during bow season again. That’s the day she got excited about TenPoint crossbows.

She faced yet another mastectomy operation in February 2014. “When I went in to set everything up with the doctor, I took my calendar with me. I said, ‘Look, I’ve got a bear hunt in May, I’ve got a South African hunt in July, and we need to be done with this before those happen.’ And he said, ‘Okay.’”

She made both of those hunts and is looking forward to hunting deer this fall in her native Pennsylvania, but she now shoots a TenPoint Stealth SS. “It’s a little bit lighter, a little bit shorter, more compact,” she said. “It makes it more convenient when I’m in blinds or in treestands. I bought it the day it hit the market, a year ago in May.  I purchased the crossbow and I left for Saskatchewan three days later for our spring bear hunt. I shot my junkyard bear, and I only had that crossbow a couple of days.”

Hassinger, a grandmother of nine and the director of Ladies in Camo, has killed alligators, whitetails, turkeys, bears, wild

hogs and even ptarmigan with her crossbow.

“I actually encourage young hunters just getting into it, rather than starting with a rifle, which the recoil could scare them from wanting to shoot it again — there is no recoil on the crossbow. They can be nailing a target dead center, and it gives them the encouragement and the excitement to keep going. I actually recommend that they start with a crossbow.

“You can take very large trophy animals very ethically. I’ve seen other crossbows that malfunctioned, but I’ve never had a malfunction with my crossbow. It’s a quality piece of equipment, and it shows.”

TenPoint Pro Staff recommended:
