Dead Man’s Time: Presenting Another Peter James Masterpiece

This author is synonymous with bestsellers, and this new novel offers even more proof as to why he’s so successful.

Beginning in the year 1922, Gavin Daly is sleeping peacefully in his room when a group of men break in, kill his mother, kidnap his father, and scare Gavin and his sister Aileen to death. The men do not offer to kill the children; TOMDeadMansTimethey simply take their father and blend into the night, leaving them to stare at the corpse of their mother and attempt to understand what just happened to their loving family.

The children’s aunt takes Gavin and Aileen to live in Ireland. But before the ship leaves the dock, a young man gives Gavin a package that contains a newspaper article about the murder/kidnapping that includes information on how Gavin’s father was about to be named the boss of the White Hand Gang. In addition to the paper, his father’s watch is in the package with a strange list of names and numbers. As the ship sets sail and Ireland awaits, the young Gavin vows to come back one day and find out what really happened.

At the age of ninety-five, Gavin Daly has become a rich man buying and selling antiques. Unfortunately, in his many years, he was unable to discover the truth behind the tragedy. Aileen had been the bearer of their father’s watch and is found tortured and tied up; her house completely vandalized with many antiques stolen, including the timepiece.

Enter Detective Superintendent Roy Grace, who’s put in charge of the odd case and is trying to deal with Gavin who’s beyond enraged at the death of his sister. Using his power, might and millions, Daly begins his own investigation trying to track down the culprits right along with the Detective who’s desperately trying to do his job.

Spanning decades and countries, the characters and plot are both complex and extremely riveting. Yet again, another Peter James’ masterpiece.

Until Next Time, Everybody,

Amy Lignor
