Chris Dorsey’s ‘Call To the Wild’ Investment Results In Millions

By Winnie Sun

From ink and paper to the big screen, Chris Dorsey is known for his profound ability to take big movements and growing trends and turn them into shows that we just can’t stop watching. As President and founding partner of Dorsey Pictures, formerly Orion Entertainment, he has helped create more than 40 outdoor television series—more than anyone in history—for nine different networks and incredibly, 32 of those series are still in production today.

Preceding his career in television, Chris was a publishing executive running some of the leading outdoor titles in America, including Sports Afield, America’s oldest outdoor magazine. His work has appeared in a wide variety of national publications including The Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, Television Week, National Geographic, Writer’s Digest, as well as many other outdoor publications. Chris has even authored seven different books on subjects like the outdoors, natural history, and business.

As a World War 2 veteran, Chris really looked up to his father. “He remembered a lot of the good stories when people would help him, his fellow soldiers and things like that. But when it came to the nitty gritty he didn’t so much want to talk about it. That wasn’t unusual for a lot of those vets; they had no more tears to give and so they would compartmentalize that part of their life, focus forward and yet he never held any animosity towards the Japanese which I always thought was pretty extraordinary.” Chris comments.

Today, Chris takes that memorable relationship with his father and passes it down to his own twin boys. He loves his life as a father. From floating the rivers in Montana to talks about Entrepreneurship on the way to school, Chris’ day job includes making sure that his boys are included in all of the family and business adventures. Chris tells his boys that “It’s not inspiration its perspiration that really is the difference in success.” Like many modern businesses, Chris and his wife Amy have blurred the lines of work and home to the benefit of their kids.
