Camo IS Green – Check it Out!

Being ‘green’ comes in many forms. The one that most people often identify with are the green organizations – charitable or volunteer programs that are dedicated to rebuilding habitats. There are also new businesses that have come to light that deal with everything from LED lighting to geothermal heating and cooling systems for a home. But does anyone think about something called a Gamesled MossyOak-BreakUpNewwhen it comes to being environmentally-conscious? They should. This product is only one of hundreds that hunters employ to help the habitat, being able to move their game without having to deal with any damages happening to the landscape.

Hunters are truly the ‘greenest’ of green when you sit down and really think about things. These are true environmentalists who are interested in saving all land – from undeveloped timberlands to private and public access lands – in order to make sure that wildlife is preserved. The hunter doesn’t need to deal with issues such as factory farming, or the horrific agricultural mess that comes when chemicals and fertilizers are used to kill the landscape. They are completely organic.

A hunter is the core of ecology simply because they are the one group that has a meaningful connection to the land – from preserving wildlife to finding a way to keep the earth healthy for the masses to enjoy.

It is a fact that millions are jumping on board with the environmental movement each and every day, and that is a good thing. But hunters have actually been living the lifestyle far before it came into fashion, so to speak. Meats that hunters and their families consume are always grown without hormones, processed feeds, or any other industrialized ways. The foods are low in fat, high in protein, which is what all doctors point out when talking to each and every one of us about overall health and well-being. The biggest guns in the healthcare movement – the American Heart Association and American Cancer Society – consistently recommend venison, rabbit, pheasant, etc. – which is what the hunter already provides to his/her family.

A majority of the hunting community hunts exclusively in their home states, which not only helps the local habitats thrive – never having to be refreshed or reconstructed – but the money the hunter puts into their local economies bring extra benefits to their home state, allowing the state to save public parks, or build areas for children and families to enjoy on a daily basis.

The one thing most do not think about when it comes to the powerful combination of conservation and the hunter is the fact that the game is now healthy. The habitats have been able to build up themselves, sustaining hunted as well as non-hunted wildlife. Many take this for granted, but without the hunter these populations would be extinct.

Historically, millions of animals were slaughtered in order to feed the marketplace; over 40 million buffalo were killed bringing the creature to the brink of extinction, as well as other groups that would be as rare as the dodo in 2013 if the hunter had not been around. Hunters took matters in hand and worked on everything from establishing seasons, game limits and wildlife conservation funds. With the hunter, white-tailed deer, pronghorn antelope, elk, wild turkeys – hundreds of species – were moved from the threatened category and are healthy populations once again.

Hunters and sport-shooters pay for more than 80 percent of all conservation and habitat programs in the U.S.; licenses, tags, permits, fees and special excise taxes on firearms, ammunition, etc., have raised over five billion dollars since 1939, with no other conservation group coming close to these numbers.

Costs increase every year when it comes to conservation, and the fact is that the price of hunting licenses is outpacing the rate of inflation. Yet, there is no debate about this. In fact, hunters began pushing for the taxes themselves when this group first began, and taxing hunters to fund the health of public wildlife is still seen by hunters to be a proud part of their heritage. Hunters are the ones causing the wildlife to thrive and maintaining the burden of trying to keep the populations under control for the health, safety and well-being of the rest of us.

So remember, although the hunter wears camo and you may have issues with them, they are absolutely, 100% green.
