A Day in the Life of a Working Parent

March 4, 2013 – Angela Carona’s first day back at work after maternity leaveParentView

7:05 am Angela brings her 4 month old daughter, Mia for her first day at Rainbow Academy. She is running late to get to the train station and leaves with a pit in her stomach, missing Mia already.

7:30 am Angela catches the 7:30 train into NYC.

7:40 am Sitting on the train, she is worried about how Mia is doing. Angela take out her iPhone and logs into the ParentView® Internet Monitoring and sees little Mia, enjoying a bottle in the rocking chair with Miss Karen. She takes a deep breath and is relieved.

10:00 am After a short reunion with co-workers, they ask to see pictures of Mia. Angela takes out her iPad and logs in to see Mia playing on the “tummy time” mat.

1:00 pm Grabbing a quick lunch, Angela checks her personal e-mail and finds a message from Mia’s teacher, via Tadpoles, that includes a video of Mia enjoying her lunch, too.

6:00 pm There’s a track fire and the train is delayed. While Angela receives an email from the child care center updating her with Mia’s daily report and a picture of her smiling via Tadpoles, Rainbow Academy’s parent e-communication app. She calls the center to let them know that she is running late and is told “Relax, we’re here.”

You get the picture. The stresses on working parents have never been greater and business meet their needs are not just surviving, they are thriving. Rainbow Academy Early Learning Centers is one of the businesses that are primed to meet that demand. The one aspect that best defines and sets this child care apart from other franchises, is their founding and lasting commitment to the families that they serve. In order to care for the educational needs of the child, they believe that it is equally important to meet the needs of the parent!

When Founders Guy and Julia Falzarano opened their first Rainbow Academy in 1997, they quickly took note of the stress parents were under – commuting long distances and working late hours, rushing to pick their kids up from the center before it closed for the day. The Falzarano’s saw a need and quickly created extended hours – both opening and closing. On September 11th, many Rainbow Academy parents were stuck inside NYC and separated from their children at home in New Jersey. This increased the anxiety that many working parents were already experiencing and once again, Rainbow Academy launched their ParentView® Internet Monitoring System which enabled parents to login online to view their children via two cameras in each classroom. Each time the Falzarano’s witnessed a demand – they rose to meet the challenge.

These were the earliest stages of Rainbow Academy’s innovative signature “Circle of Care” philosophy – which focuses on meeting the needs of both the children AND the parents. Since then, Rainbow Academy has grown by leaps and bounds. In 2011, they began franchising with ten New Jersey child care centers in operation and today, they have thirteen with an additional seventeen units under development.

In addition to the innovative values at the core of the company, each Rainbow Academy center is on the forefront of introducing innovative technology for parents, students and teachers. ParentView® Internet Monitoring has continued to evolve and is now accessible to parents via mobile phones, iPads and internet. Parents, and even grandparents, are able to login and stay connected to their children throughout the day. This service is especially impactful for military families that login from overseas.

Interactive Whiteboard Technology is installed in all Pre-K and Kindergarten classrooms. This state-of-the-art interactive learning tool brings learning alive as teachers and students explore the world beyond the walls of the classroom. Children learning about the letter “A” can now visit the San Diego Aquarium and text questions to the tank divers and also watch the antelope at the waterhole in Africa; the learning potential are endless.

Rainbow Academy also launched it’s e-communication application, Tadpoles, in the fall of 2012. It’s just another way that Rainbow Academy utilizes technology to strengthen communication between the school and the parent. Tadpoles enables teachers to send special photos, videos and messages directly to parent’s throughout the day. Parents can receive the information directly through e-mail or through the Tadpoles iPhone app.
